President of Cypress Films, Joseph founded the New York-based production company in 1987 in partnership with Jon Glascoe. Joseph’s most recent producing and directing credit is What’s This Country Called Now?, a dramatic short about the Siege of Sarajevo filmed on location in Bosnia and Herzegovina, starring Zrinka Cvitešić and Rade Šerbedžija (Winner, Best Short, Best Actress, and Best of the Festival, East Europe Film Festival 2020).  Prior to that, Joseph directed EvenHand, a dramatic feature film shot on location in San Antonio, Texas starring Bill Sage and Bill Dawes (Sundance Channel/Arts Alliance). Joseph also co-directed and co-produced (with Jon Glascoe) Cherry (Showcase Entertainment), a romantic comedy starring Shalom Harlow, Jake Weber and David McCallum.  In 1997, Joseph and Jon produced Julian Po, a Cypress Films production of a Fine Line film starring Christian Slater, Robin Tunney, Michael Parks and Cherry Jones.

Before joining Cypress, Joseph worked as a freelance location manager in New York, managing several films, including Five Corners, directed by Tony Bill (Jodie Foster, Tim Robbins, John Turturro), Broken Vows (Tommy Lee Jones) and Choices (George C. Scott, Jacqueline Bisset).

Joseph’s first job in film was working as a production assistant for Woody Allen on A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy. He then worked as a production assistant on Mr. Allen’s next three films, Zelig, Broadway Danny Rose and The Purple Rose of Cairo. Other AD credits include Splash (NY shoot), The Flamingo Kid (NY shoot), Moscow on the Hudson (NY shoot) and the fabulous 80’s cult classic, The Last Dragon, starring Taimak.

Joseph majored in Studio Art at Middlebury College, graduating with departmental honors. He has an avid interest in historic preservation, serving on the Trustee’s Council of the Preservation League of New York State and as a charter member of the board and Director’s Council member of the Historic House Trust of New York City, and the Emeritus Council of the Olana Partnership.

Jon founded Cypress Films in 1987 in partnership with Joseph Pierson. His screenwriting credits include “Stonecliff” (Colleen Camp Productions), “Will” (Steven Haft Productions), “Premonition” (Bedford Falls), “In The Pines” (Interscope), “In-Between” (Morgan Creek) and “Home Team” (for Larry Gordon and HBO Sports.

Many of the projects Cypress has produced, including “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” “The Sound and the Silence,” “Harrison Bergeron” and “Cherry,” were either written, co-written or re-written by Jon.

In addition to his extensive experience as a writer, Jon is also an accomplished producer. He executive produced EvenHand (Sundance Channel, Arts Alliance America), directed by Joseph Pierson. He also shares a producing and directing credit with Joseph on “Cherry,” a romantic comedy starring Shalom Harlow, Jake Weber and David McCallum. In 1997, Jon and Joseph produced “Julian Po,” a Cypress Films production of a Fine Line film starring Christian Slater, Robin Tunney, Michael Parks and Cherry Jones.

Prior to joining Cypress, Jon was Executive Producer for National Programming at WTTW in Chicago, the nation’s largest public television station, where he oversaw numerous productions, including Bud Greenspan’s hugely acclaimed film “16 Days of Glory.”

Earlier in his career, Jon was a Senior Producer and Head Writer for “Nightcap,” a literary roundtable hosted by Studs Terkel and Calvin Trillin which aired weekly on A&E; a writer for the short-lived Satellite News Channel (a precursor of CNN), producer of the highly successful “Dr. Ruth Show” for Lifetime; and an associate at The Nation magazine.

Jon is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Middlebury College. He is a rotisserie baseball fanatic, a farm owner, an avid poker player, a scotch drinker, a dog lover and an enemy of fashion.
